Aman has opened reservations for Amanvari, its first resort in Mexico, ahead of an official opening on 1 August. Located on the East Cape of Baja California Sur, the 18-casita property marks another significant step in the brand’s continued expansion across some of the world’s most desirable luxury destinations. More importantly, it reinforces a broader shift taking place within global hospitality — one where privacy, space, and access to nature increasingly command a premium over scale.

Set within the 1,500-acre Costa Palmas development, Amanvari occupies a stretch of coastline that remains remarkably untouched compared to the more established resort corridors of Los Cabos. Framed by desert landscapes, mountain ranges, and the waters of the Sea of Cortez, the property sits alongside a growing ecosystem of luxury infrastructure that includes a Four Seasons resort, a private marina, golf facilities, branded residences, and private aviation access. Together, these elements are transforming the East Cape into one of North America’s most closely watched luxury hospitality destinations.

The resort itself follows Aman’s longstanding approach to understated luxury. Designed around just 18 standalone casitas, each accommodation spans approximately 82 square metres and includes a private heated pool, outdoor shower, and expansive terrace overlooking either the sea or surrounding desert. Interiors draw heavily from the natural environment, combining local materials, warm textures, and open-plan living spaces that blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors.

Beyond the accommodations, Amanvari is positioned around the experiences that increasingly define modern luxury travel. Guests will have access to diving and snorkelling within the UNESCO-protected reefs of Cabo Pulmo National Park, deep-sea fishing excursions, hiking routes through the Sierra de la Laguna mountains, and a wellness programme rooted in Aman’s broader commitment to longevity, restoration, and holistic wellbeing. The emphasis is less on activity itself and more on creating a deeper connection to place.

That positioning reflects a larger trend emerging across the luxury hospitality sector. Over the past decade, affluent travellers have increasingly shifted away from high-density resort environments in favour of destinations offering privacy, authenticity, and immersion in nature. As wealth becomes more global and mobility more seamless, remote geographies once considered inaccessible are evolving into some of the most valuable hospitality markets in the world.

Costa Palmas is perhaps one of the clearest examples of that evolution. What was once a largely undeveloped stretch of Baja coastline is rapidly becoming a hub for luxury tourism, second-home ownership, and branded hospitality investment. The arrival of Aman further validates the long-term appeal of the destination and signals growing confidence in the East Cape as a future centre of luxury travel.

Rates at Amanvari begin at approximately $4,500 per night, placing it firmly within the upper tier of global hospitality. Yet the pricing itself is perhaps less significant than what it represents. Increasingly, luxury is not being measured by scale, spectacle, or excess, but by access to environments that feel rare, private, and increasingly difficult to replicate. As hospitality continues moving toward more intimate and experience-led models, Amanvari arrives as both a new resort and a reflection of where the industry is heading next.
