Discover Collection, the new members-only hospitality brand from Bernhard Bohnenberger, is due to open its first retreat this October on Oman’s Musandam Peninsula. Discover Collection Ras Amud sits on a cape near Khasab, backed by the Hajar Mountains and overlooking the Sea of Oman, with around thirty villas, each with its own private pool, set into a landscape the brand has built its entire pacing around rather than working against.
Bohnenberger built his reputation as the founding force behind Six Senses, the brand he grew from a contrarian idea, premium pricing for a softer, more barefoot style of luxury, into a company IHG bought for $300 million in 2019. He has described his ideal Discover Collection member as someone who has already done the conventional version of luxury travel and found it spiritually thin: the kind of guest who would rather dive with a marine biologist than a dive master, and who can tell the difference.
That distinction runs through the property’s programming. Guests can dive alongside dolphins in the wild with a resident marine biologist on hand, or time an evening swim to the Musandam peninsula’s natural bioluminescence. On land, the days are built around private astronomy sessions under the Hajar range’s dark skies, candlelit dining set into the landscape, and culinary experiences that range from learning artisanal bread-making with local cooks to a fishing trip that ends in a beach barbecue in a secluded cove.
Wellbeing sits at the centre of the offer, organised around a dedicated space the brand calls The Sanctuary, with personalised programmes, thermal experiences and treatments built from local ingredients. A yoga pavilion sits at the tip of the peninsula, and a village-style hub anchors dining and communal gatherings, the closest thing the retreat has to a main building in the conventional resort sense. Access itself runs through membership rather than a standard booking page: a waitlist has been running since Founding Memberships opened in spring 2026, ahead of the brand’s wider Global Membership launch, with Ras Amud the first of around a dozen retreats Discover Collection plans worldwide.
